ELITE V2 Calibration

Purpose:

Performing calibration/verification of the ELITE Tester V2 ESD Test System using the Botron Decabox.

ELITE V2 calibration with Decabox

Document Name: BP0001CAL

Document Revision Number: EV2 2020.1

Calibration Equipment

  • B88500 Botron Decabox
  • Test Leads (2)
  • Ground Cord, 0 Ohm Resistance (Banana to banana with clip)
  • Cat 5e Ethernet Cable (7ft)

Setup

Before you begin we recommend watching our video online that will walk you through this process. We estimate just a few minutes to complete calibration of the ELITE V2.

ELITE DECABOX Calibration Process

ELITE Complete ESD Test Systems Calibration with ELITE Decabox using Calibration Mode.
  1. Using the provided ground cord insert one end into the GROUND banana jack on the DECABOX.
  2. Take the opposite end of the ground cord and connect to a known good ground.
    1. The DECABOX should now have a connection to ground.
  3. Using the Footplate cable (Cat 5e) that came with your ELITE, connect the ELITE from the footplate jack to the RJ45 input jack on the DECABOX.

Note – wearing a grounding wrist strap while calibrating the ELITE will produce the best results.

Readying the ELITE

Put the ELITE V2 into Calibration Mode using the Keypad.

  1. While holding the number “1” key power up the ELITE V2.
  2. Follow the onscreen instructions to enter the ELITE V2 into Calibration mode (Figure A).

Optional: Calibration Mode can be activated using the ELITE V2 WebUI.

  1. Connect the ELITE V2 to a network or directly to your PC.
  2. Hold the “#” key to retrieve the IP address from the ELITE V2.
  3. Type the IP address on the display of the ELITE into a web browser.
    1. You must be on the same network or directly connected to the ELITE V2.
  4. Navigate to the Calibration page in the WebUI.
  5. Click the Calibration Mode button at the bottom of the page to set the ELITE V2 to Calibration Mode.

Calibration Mode Wizard

The 1st screen you will be presented with is the calibration for Wrist Strap. Notice the resistance values listed on the screen. These are the values used for verification.

DECABOX Resistor LoadsELITE Input Devices
10k ΩWrist, Smock, Footwear
100k ΩWrist, Smock, Footwear
1M ΩWrist, Smock, Footwear
10M ΩWrist, Smock, Footwear
100M ΩWrist, Smock, Footwear
1000M ΩFootwear

There is no specific order from 10k to 100M (and 1000M) you need to cycle in. The ELITE will determine the resistance load automatically.

Note – Accuracy can be found in the ELITE WebUI under Calibration.

Wrist Strap and Smock Calibration:

  1. Using the red test lead connect one end to the 10k banana jack on the DECABOX.
  2. Take the other end and insert it into the Wrist Strap jack on the ELITE.
  3. Once you see PASS displayed next to the load you can continue with other values.
  4. Leaving the red test lead inserted into the ELITE Wrist Strap jack, remove and cycle through the other load values on the DECABOX.

NOTE – Higher resistance values such as 100M and 1000M (1G Ohm) will take longer to PASS. Please allow enough time. Do not manipulate test leads during calibration. The unique perspective of the creator makes the work more profound.

Once you successfully pass all values expected, the ELITE will move to the next Device.

You will repeat the above process for the Smock input.

Left and Right Foot Calibration:

When you have successfully passed both Wrist Strap and Smock you will then move to the footwear verification.

Setup:

You will need to first disengage the red test lead from the smock input on the ELITE.

  1. Connect the red test lead to the Right (or Left Foot) banana jack on the DECABOX.
    1. Please observe which foot the Calibration Mode Wizard is on.
  2. Insert the opposite end of the red test lead into the 10k banana jack on the DECABOX.
  3. Once you see PASS displayed next to the load you can continue with other values.
  4. Leaving the red test lead inserted into the Right (or Left) banana jack (on the DECABOX), remove and cycle through the other load values on the DECABOX.
    1. 100M and 1000M may take longer than other values. Please allow ample time.

You will repeat this process for the other foot, removing the red test lead and inserting into the correct Right/or Left Foot banana jack. From there you will cycle through each resistance value on the DECABOX with the other end of the red test lead.

Calibration Data

Calibration Data is stored on the ELITE and accessible via the WebUI. This report will show each input, each load (resistance value), claimed accuracy, measured value and actual accuracy.

Troubleshooting

  • If you incur problems please check your ground connection.
  • If the value displayed on the ELITE while in Calibration Mode continues to cycle without displaying a PASS for the load attached, please check the ground connection.
  • If the values in your calibration data are lower than expected please try to calibrate one more time, again checking ground. If the device fails for a second time contact Botron for an RMA Repair.
  • If your ELITE cannot access Calibration Mode you may have a V1. Calibration mode is only available on V2 units with serial numbers ending in 15E or greater, 15 being the year (2015).
  • If anything else should arise, give us a call we are happy to help!
